The London Community Foundation are offering small grants of up to £5,000 for projects that improve local people’s health and wellbeing, especially those who are socially isolated.
The grants are being offered through the Lambeth Wellbeing Fund in partnership with NHS Lambeth, the Lambeth Public Health Directorate and Lambeth Council. The fund contributes to Lambeth’s overall health and wellbeing strategy and encourages solutions from the ground up, building on local skills and knowledge.
The grants are available to projects in the following priority wards, Ferndale, Larkhall and Stockwell, Vassall, Coldharbour, Streatham Hill, Streatham Wells and St Leonard’s
In addition to these priority areas, 25% of the total funding available in this round is for the rest of the borough.
Purpose of the Fund
Lambeth residents identified three priorities through the Big Lambeth Health Debate and the Southwark and Lambeth Integrated Care Citizens Forum. Projects must support participants to address at least one of them.
In addition, the London Community Foundation know that loneliness and isolation can contribute to poor physical and mental health. People who have good social connections are healthier and better able to deal with health problems if they arise, including managing long-term health conditions. Therefore they are particularly interested in projects which reach the most isolated people in the community who don’t currently access any other activities.
They are looking for projects that promote wellbeing, help people to connect with others and address what are known as the Five Ways to Wellbeing. These are: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. These activities are simple things individuals can do in their everyday lives to increase their wellbeing. If someone is able to do them all then they have a better chance of feeling good about themselves and having better health.
