Hypertension (or high blood pressure) can cause a range of issues including heart disease, heart attacks or heart failure; stroke; kidney disease and several other conditions.

There are rarely symptoms of high blood pressure and it's estimated that it causes (British Heart Foundation) over 50% of heart attacks and strokes. You also have a higher risk of developing high blood pressure if you're from an African, Caribbean or South Asian background.

Over 30 pharmacies in Lambeth now offer free NHS blood pressure checks. These only take 10-15 minutes in the pharmacy consultation room with a community pharmacist. Following the test, you may be referred to your GP for further support if they say it is needed.

The service is available to anyone over 40 but the pharmacist may consider it for under 40s if needed. You can find out more about this service here
