Seeking views on cancer services for children and young people in South London and the South East of England

NHS London wants to hear from children and young people who have experiences with using cancer services in London and South East England, as well as their families and carers; following the most recent review of the services in January 2020.

Many reviews of cancer services for children and young people have taken place.  The most recent one which was asked for by the Chief Executive of the NHS, was finished in January 2020.

The focus of this review was to decide if it should be compulsory for Principal Treatment Centres (PTC) for children’s cancer to be on the same site as a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).   The conclusion of the review was that from now on all Principal Treatment Centres must be in the same place as a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and other specialised children’s services. The review noted that these recommendations would have a particular impact for some services and, in particular, those provided at the Royal Marsden and St George’s.

NHS London now wants to hear from children, young people, families, charities, health bodies and clinicians to help think about the way forward.
