Lambeth Learning Disability Assembly: Our Year 2025-26
The Lambeth Learning Disability Assembly is the group in Lambeth specifically for people with a learning disability and carers to meet and share news and information, support each other, and represent their needs to decision makers. They do this through Forum and Assembly meetings, as well as different activities throughout the year.
Forum meetings
Forum meetings are held every month and are for people with learning disabilities and invited speakers.
In 2024-25, they were held in Stockwell Park Community Centre, L’Arche, and Aspire. Each was attended by about 30 people with a core group of 10, with around 60 people from different day services attending in small groups on some days.
Assembly meetings
Assembly meetings are held quarterly and are open to everyone – people with learning disabilities, parents, carers, and professionals (service providers and decision makers).
In 2025-26, they held two Assembly meetings in Stockwell Park Community Centre and were attended by around 20 people. They also held two parties: a Tea dance in June celebrating Learning Disability week and a Christmas party in December.
Learning Disability representatives
Meetings are chaired by Learning Disability representatives with support from Laura, Liz, and Jane. The representatives also hold a planning meeting each month, usually at Stockwell Park Community Centre.
Over the year, they recruited and trained two new Reps, Awa and Maria, and said goodbye to Faye and Steven.
Key Activities in 2025-26
Here are some of the topics and activities covered by the LLDA in 2025-26.
- Staying healthy, including looking at Health Action Plans and working with local hospitals looking at Martha’s Rule.
- Workshops on various topics, including Artificial Intelligence with ClearCommunityWeb, changes in benefits, their Covid stories, and the Menopause.
- Social activities, including a card-making craft workshop at L’Arche, entertainment from a community choir, and a picnic in Brockwell park.
- Updates on local activities from members and partners, including presentations from organisations like L’Arche, Breaking Out of the Bubble, Books Beyond Words, and Aspire.
They continue to aim to hold 2 social events a year - a Christmas Party and a summer party. They would also like to host more drop-in activities with partners or longer-term projects, like 2024’s Listening Ear project.
